New Years Eve Events in Morzine

New Year is one of the busiest times in Morzine, and Elevationalps are fully booked.  So if you are one of the lucky ones to have a luxury ski chalet holiday to looks forward to, here is your itinerary the main event!  Morzine has bars and restaurants in abundance and a town that knows how to throw a party – there is entertainment for you and the kids, from dusk until dawn.

Early Evening

When you’ve had your last ski down the pistes for 2017, get yourself down to the Tourism Office square to kickstart the celebrations:  starting from 3:30pm and lasting until 6:30pm, there’ll be the chance for yourself and your kids to get ultra creative with Face Painting events. With all things sequined, you can really see off 2017 with a swirl of colour and get the whole family in the mood for a bright and colourful evening! For 2€ per child, register down at the Tourism Office.

Whilst that’s going on, you’ll be right in the heart and centre of the illumination of the Tourism Office square, with music playing as the festive lights get lit up, from 4pm until 7pm.

At 6:30pm, it’s worth heading up the hill to the bottom of the Pleney slopes: the traditional, annual Torch lit descent takes place on the slopes as our local ESF instructors bring a magnificent show to the piste.  Mulled wine accompanies the event and you’re encouraged to bring your own glass (you can buy a reusable cup from the Tourism Office or at the bottom of the Pleney too, for 1€ per glass).  And this will be followed by the much anticipated Fireworks display, that can be seen throughout the resort!

Later on

Get yourselves back down to the Morzine Tourist Office square afterwards, as the party gets underway: the open-air dancefloor is open to all and you’re encouraged to get involved with the locals, dancing to the local DJ on stage from 9pm until the small hours of the morning.  A traditional countdown takes place to call in the New Year, and the party continues!

Dining

If you’re looking for a festive meal, several of Morzine’s most popular restaurants host a special menu for the occasion, so it’s worth booking in advance.

La Chamade: Right in the cente of Morzine, just opposite the Tourism Office, La Chamade boasts a diverse menu with exceptional food and service.  Their New Year’s Eve menu is reputed for several courses full of rich tastes and flavourful dishes, with an exciting menu for the kids too!

La Grange: If you didn’t get the chance to enjoy their delicious Christmas menu, why not have a taste of La Grange’s New Year’s Eve menu?  Offering a selection of nibbles to enjoy with your drinks, they then treat you to a choice of main courses followed by a cheese dish, and then bring the meal to a finish with a traditional glass of champagne to accompany a selection of their miniature desserts. You will need to book a table and also pay for the meal in advance:  for adults the menu is 73€, whilst the kids have their own menu to choose from at 35€ per head.

Bars

Many of Morzine’s bars will host their own New Year’s Eve parties too!  With tickets available in advance, many will sell out before the date so pick a bar and book yourselves in for the festivities. Morzine provides a late-night license for the occasion, meaning that most bars will stay open as early as 6am: you really can party the night away!

New Years Day

If you are fresh enough get up and make the most of the quiet pistes.

If you haven’t partied too hard yet and the kids are looking forward to bringing in the New Year with further celebrations, then get yourselves back down to the Morzine Tourist Office square on New Year’s Day.  You’ll get the whole morning to spend on the pistes (unless you manage that sought-after lie-in), as the festivities don’t typically start until 4:30pm.

You can look forward to fancy costumes and much entertainment as many different street performances and parades will take place from the square during the evening and it’s all free to watch and join in on!

Funk and Rock music from the 1960’s to today will be brought to life as The Inglorious Fonkers take to the stage in front of the Morzine Tourist Office. To kickstart an activity-filled week (see our January-Events blog to get in the know about what’s coming up) the live music is a repertoire of funk and rock, suitable for all ages and guaranteed to get everybody up and dancing between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.

HAPPY NEW YEAR’S !!
