Restaurant Review – La Cendree

It is one of those places that has always been there but went unnoticed. La Cendree has just had a facelift and is the surprise hit of the 17/18 season.

The location is amazing, just opposite the Morzine ESF office on the main drag past the Pleney lift and right next door to the Piou Piou kindergarten.   It is open for lunch and throughout the day for drinks through to apres until 7pm.

The recent renovation wasn’t huge, but revitalizing the facia has really made the place look more modern and inviting.  I was told by a local that the lunchtime plat du jour was now the best in town and that we HAD to book because it would get packed.

The menu is traditional Savoyard fair; fondue, tartiflette etc.  And standard stuff like steak, omelettes and a few salads.  They do a skier plat du jour which includes a dessert for 18 euros.

We went for the ‘plat’ which was steak skewer with a mushroom and wine sauce, a little dauphinoise potato and roasted endive.  It was excellent, the steak was melt in the mouth, the sauce was yummy and the portion was just right for lunch.  I finished with the dessert which was a pear frangipan which was nice, hey maybe a little average, but for an extra 2 euros who’s complaining!

It was packed, mainly with families with kids because it is so convenient right next to the ski school and kindergarten.  When it is sunny there is a fantastic terrace so you can watch the little ones in the sun with a drink.

In the summer the kindergarten area is a large field we kids can play and the restaurant have climbing frames, slides and games out on the grass.

I’m told they do those Savoyard classics really well, so I’ll be back soon to give that a go.
