Why Book A Ski Weekend In Morzine?

Morzine Skiing Snow Pistes

Morzine is the perfect resort for a ski weekend or short ski break.   Its proximity to Geneva makes it one of the quickest ski resorts to get to and time is of the essence!  You need to get as much skiing as possible for the minimum time off work.  Or maybe you’ve only got a “pass out” for 3 nights.  And Morzine is great value for money.  We show you why Morzine is ideal and within your budget.

Cheap and Frequent flights to Geneva

During the ski season there are tons of options for cheap flights from the UK to Geneva.  In fact the number of daily flights and low fares for this coming winter are back to pre Covid levels.  While researching for this blog, we found 37 flights from the UK on Friday 9th  January from Easyjet alone!  We were amazed at how many flights where available each day and how many were under £50 euros.

For an example we picked Easyjet Gatwick to Geneva found weekend flights departing Friday at 07.20am (you’ll be in Morzine by lunchtime) and departing on Monday at 8.45pm.  The return price was just £75 per person.   And similar return flights via Manchester were £100 per person.  Those flight times mean that you will be on the slopes by lunchtime on Friday and will leave Morzine at about 5pm on Monday.  That is three and half days skiing.

Here is a list of all the airlines and departure airports from the UK and Ireland for Winter 2024/25:

  • British Airways – Gatwick, Heathrow, London City
  • Easyjet – Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol, Southend, Stanstead, Luton, Gatwick, Bournemouth, Southampton
  • Jet2 – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, East Midlands, Birmingham, Bristol, Stanstead

Short airport transfers from Geneva to Morzine

The transfer from the airport to Morzine is 80 minutes.  If you book a private transfer then you will leave as soon as your party is ready.  If you book a shared then their might be a wait.

There are plenty of transfer companies who offer various levels of service to and from Morzine.  But we have always worked with Skiidy Gonzales who have the most availability.  They are highly professional and consistently brilliant.  You should budget £80 per person return for this leg of your journey.

In the heart of the Portes du Soleil Ski Area

Morzine is right the centre of one of the biggest ski areas in the Alps.  The Portes du Soleil spans two countries, France and Switzerland and had over 600km of pistes.   There are 208 lifts and 307 pistes.  From Morzine you can access it all, although probably not in one day.  In fact the area is so big that many ski weekend guests choose to just buy the Morzine/Les Gets lift pass.  But if you buy the full area then you can ski the Les Gets area one day, then Avoriaz and Switzerland the next day, and then Châtel the next day.  If you are feeling really fresh you could ski the famous “tour” or circuit which takes in the whole area including the furthest swiss village resorts.  Portes Du Soleil Piste May Summer & Winter 2024 covering the whole are and includes the itinerary for the “tour”.

Great Après

A ski weekend would not be complete without après and nightlife.  Morzine has something for every taste; from champagne and Instagram at the Folie Douce to the beer tables and live music at the Cavern Bar. The Cavern Bar is in the centre of the village, surrounded by other good bars, so an idea spot.  They have different live music every night.  All the bars and restaurants in Morzine are busy every night and there is always plenty of atmosphere.  There is too much going on to list it all,  so the best thing to do is to follow your nose or the noise!
