The quality of mountain biking in Morzine is one of the reasons why the town is nearly as popular with adrenaline seekers in the summer as it is in the winter.
The Portes du Soleil is probably the second best downhill mountain biking area in the world after Whistler, Canada. The lift system takes you and your bike to around 50 specialist trials. All the ski shops in town turn to bike hire shops and from late June when the lifts open to their close in early September there is a fun vibe in town with all the crazy guys who love the sport. The runs are graded in just the same way as ski runs, from easy greens to impossible blacks, so giving it a go is easy. But do hire full protection, get the right bike and a guide if you aren’t sure.
The combination of downhill and cross country called enduro riding is getting more popular and the bike park has reacted to this with more routes catering for the discipline. In fact the opening event called Passportes de Soleil in late June is basically an enduro mountain bike event. Its an 80k tour of the area with food stops, music and a carnival atmosphere
