Top 5 Summer Day Trips from Morzine

If you have come to Morzine in the summer with a car you might fancy exploring further afield.  Here are our top 5 day trips from Morzine.  All of them are less than 90 minutes away.

Thonon Plage

A lakeside beach with beautiful grassed lawns, slides, safe swimming pools, infants play areas and pools, cafes and stalls.  There is plenty of parking and excellent clean facilities.  It is excellent value at about €6 per adult.

Reserve Naturelle at Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval

This area of outstanding natural beauty is an easy drive from Morzine and not to be missed.  The valley is a natural horseshoe and can only be accessed by foot.  The huge rock faces of the valley are littered with waterfalls, so its ideal if you can time you visit just after rain.  But either way it is breathtaking.  It is a nature park so dogs are not allowed.  There is an easy walk up the valley taking in the waterfalls and the river.  In peak season you can hire horses or take a cart ride.  There is a large restaurant near the parking and a small cafe further up the valley.  If you are fit and able the walk up the side of the valley to the refuge is well worth doing and you are sure to spot the protected local wildlife up there.
Drive to Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval then follow the A907 to the reserve.

Chamonix

The home of mountaineering, Chamonix is at the foot of Mont Blanc.  Try to visit on a clear day so you can see the spectacular scenery.  There is plenty to do as it is a large tourist focused town.  The highlight is the Agile du Midi which is highest viewpoint in Europe.  It is a bit pricey at €60 euros each but definitely worth it.  If you want outdoor clothing you will be spoilt for choice with every brand you can think of on the pedestrianised streets.  There are some fantastic restaurants too with much more ‘worldwide’ choice than Morzine.  Our favourite is Munchies which is a Scandi Asian fusion place.  Keep your eyes out for very serious mountaineers clunking back to town with ice axes and carabiners attached to them.

Evian

The water brand Evian is bottled here but we are not suggesting you tour the production plant.  Evian is a spa town with turn of the century buildings and a genteel feel.  It has a lovely walk along side the lake and a wide grassed boulevard.  Our suggestions for a day out here would include the excellent mini golf Tropic’alp Golf Adventure (www.tropicalp.fr) and a ferry ride to Lausanne in Switzerland (www.lake-geneva-switzerland.com/lausanne/passenger-ferry-boats-from-lausanne-on-lake-geneva/).

Aquapark

We have to admit that this is somewhere we haven’t visited yet but it is definitely on our ‘book it’ list this year.  There are everything adrenaline rides, family rides, swimming pools, a wellness centre.  It is 47 chfs per adult and 37 chfs per child.
