A Guide To The Morzine Ski Buses

Morzine ski busses sat at stop in the town

Morzine is the largest town in the Portes du Soleil, fortunately the Morzine ski buses, or “navettes”, make getting around very easy and they are free, you just hop on and off.  Essentially Morzine separates the huge ski area in two. Morzine and Les Gets on the western side of town and the Avoriaz, Chatel and Swiss side to the East.

The Main Lift Stations Linked By The Morzine Ski Buses

There are 5 main lift stations whisking skiers out of Morzine and up into both sides of the ski area. The Pleney and Super Morzine Telecabine are both in the centre of the village.  The other three, Ardent, Prodains and Nyon are a little further out. However, they are still easily accessible thanks to the very efficient bus service.

A Quick Guide To Getting About

If you wish to ski the Morzine/Les Gets ski area then the main way to access it is from the Pleney Telecabine, but you can also access it from the Nyon Telecabine. It is situated just 500m up from the tourist office in the centre of town and the main ski bus stop is just across the road from the lift. All of the Morzine ski buses except routes C & M stop here and from the top of the lift you can access all of the Morzine/Les Gets pistes. Skiing across to the Nyon slopes is also easy from here. Direct access to the Nyon Telecabine is possible by taking either the E or N ski bus.

The Super Morzine Telecabine station is on the opposite side of the village from the Pleney and is a 5 minute walk. The free petite train links circles the village, and saves those with ski and boots to get there without the walk.  Lines U and P also run past the Super Morzine lift station. The slopes accessible from the Super Morzine lift connect with the Avoriaz lifts and provide access to the whole Eastern side of the PDS.

Another way to access the Avoriaz slopes is to jump on the A bus route. This takes you to the end of the Prodains valley and drops you right at the base station of the Prodains Express. This large lift will whisk you up right into the heart of the Avoriaz ski area. It’s worth noting here that this bus route can get very busy at peak times.

Follow The Locals

If you’re looking for direct access to Avoriaz without the bottlenecks on the SuperMorzine route, then jump on the M bus to the Ardent Telecabine.  The timetable for this bus is in the Montriond section of the full timetable pdf below.  This will take you through the pretty village of Montriond before heading up past the beautiful frozen lake and drop you right next to the lift.

This is the locals favourite lift because of the easy access to the higher pistes, the big free car park and the popular après bar Happy Hours.  The bar does gets very lively, especially on a Wednesday, when the seasonnaire’s gather.   The bar has its own bus back to Morzine along the M route which runs until about 9pm.

In fact, the Ardent Telecabine is such a popular access point that properties along the route of the M bus particularly sought after.  Chalet Rouge, Chalet Yukinko and Chalet Pavot are just steps away from the Les Bois Venants bus stop on the M bus route.  Find out more about these chalets by clicking on their names.

How To Access The Pistes When The SuperMozine and Pleney Lifts Are Closed

During the week before Christmas (around 15th – 22th December) and the 2 weeks after 6th April, Avoriaz and Châtel are open for skiing.  This is because their pistes are higher so they keep their snow for longer.  These are great weeks to ski because the areas are quiet and accommodation prices are low.   You can use the ski bus service to easily from Morzine.  The M bus will take you to Ardent or the A bus will take you to Prodains.  The paragraphs above give you more information on those routes.

Making Use of the Full Morzine Ski Bus Timetable

We have attached a pdf of the full bus timetable.  It in French with the English underneath where it is needed.  The Morzine ski bus routes and times that we have been discussing in this blog are on pages 13 to 18.  And the Montriond M lines are on pages 18 and 19.

There are a few other routes that might be of use to you.  There is a fantastic ski area called Mont Chery which is part of Les Gets.  Its very quiet and has some wide open pistes.  It has one blue run but its mainly red and blacks runs.  You can walk to it from the Chavannes chairlift , it takes about 10 minutes.  But if you are in ski boots you might prefer to wait for the petit train which runs continuously (page 11).

The other route is the paid service that links the resorts of Les Gets and Morzine.  So if you ever miss the lift connection back to Morzine from Les Gets you know there is a way to get back.  The Balad D’Aulps service is on the first few pages of the timetable.

It is worth noting that the timetable does not include any buses from Avoriaz, Châtel or Switzerland.  Basically because there aren’t any.  So if you miss the last lift you have to get a taxi.
