Early Opening For Avoriaz
Early opening for Avoriaz is what the local inhabitants of Morzine dream of. This year the Portes du Soleil has seen some wonderful and very welcome early snow during November 2019 and as such Avoriaz opened its doors for skiers on Saturday 30th November. This is the earliest the resort has opened for quite some time and we couldn’t be happier about it.
The team of highly skilled pisteurs and shapers have been working tirelessly to get everything ready and have done an amazing job. Avoriaz is the highest resort within the Portes du Soleil ski area and as such has seen the best of the early snowfall. 40cms of fresh white snow is on the ground at village level and as much as 70cms packing the base at the highest points.
Although it’s only a partial opening of the resort, the pisteurs managed to get 8 slopes fully open serviced by 4 lifts and are planning the same if not more to be open for the following weekend before the official main opening forecast for 13th December 2019.
Opening day was a thing of beauty, literally what dreams are made of. The perfect alpine day with bluebird skies above, fresh snow on the slopes and without many holiday makers yet in resort, not a lift queue in sight.
