Managing the risks of booking a ski holiday during Covid

If you’re thinking what we’re thinking – ‘I’m in desperate need of a holiday, fresh scenery, a break from the same four walls and something new to talk about!’ We are very hopeful that by the ski season, our world will be back to normal again but in the case that it isn’t we’ve highlighted some key points to consider when booking a ski holiday. Our chalets and apartments are in the French ski resort of Morzine.

Driving vs Flying

Quarantine rules aside, airlines are having to continuously keep up to date with respective countries inbound and outbound restrictions. With fewer people booking flights and/or making cancellations it is fair to say that the impact of the Coronavirus on the aviation industry makes us nervous to commit to a ski holiday.

Choosing to drive reduces your risk of contracting the virus and you have greater control of who you choose to mix with. Did you know that Morzine is the closest ski resort from the Dover? The journey from central England is approximately 12 hours from door to door and is pretty straight forward with only high traffic volumes on the UK side. You can take a read of our blog on how to prepare for your drive to Morzine here: https://elevationalps.com/driving-morzine-prepare-driving-alps-winter/

Cancellation

Check the cancellation policy for anything you book, be it flights, the tunnel, your accommodation or ski lessons is important and these all differ from company to company.  Our cancellation policy allows you to transfer your booking to another time if travel restrictions mean you can not come.

Sole Occupancy Chalets and Apartments

Choosing what type of accommodation best suits you and your party is always tricky without having to consider Covid too! Booking a whole chalet or apartment to yourselves has the advantage of not having the exposure of sharing with others. At Elevation Alps all of our properties are sole occupancy.

If you prefer to avoid busy restaurants then you can book a private chef or a food delivery service.

Cleaning Standards – procedures in place

We take cleaning very seriously and even more so now. Information shared by WHO (The World Health Organisation), Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, Ministere Du Travail and Airbnb have provided cleaning checklists for hoteliers and property managers to help reduce the risk of spreading Covid.  We have incorporated those procedures into our changeover cleans.

Piste to Mountain

The location of the property to the ski lifts is also worth considering. If your property is not Ski in/Ski out or within a comfortable walking distance to the ski lifts, you may want to consider arranging private slope transfers to and from the mountain. Free buses run frequently around Morzine, however restrictions may be put in place for this Winter making it difficult to get the most out of your days skiing.

The majority of our properties are in central Morzine meaning walking to and from the Pleney and Super M telecabines. For properties a little further out, we can help arrange private slope transfers for you.

We look forward to welcoming you to your ski holiday here in Morzine
