New Years Week in Morzine 2019
New years week in Morzine is a great time to visit, the town centre is transformed into an enchanted village and the tourist board puts on one hell of a show for the main event. With a week long, fully loaded events schedule to keep you occupied on and off the slopes, it’s the perfect time to be in Morzine.
Most of the events take place by the tourist office which is the centre of the enchanted village.
Here’s what’s going on:
Saturday 28th December
4.30pm to 6.30pm: Head down to the tourist office for a warm glass of Green Chaud and a dance to get you into the swing of things. Green Chaud is hot chocolate with green Chartreuse and they are selling candy floss for 2€ a pop. There is also cheese from the local dairy available. All accompanied by a concert with Galiro, a one man band with a modern twist.
Sunday 29th December
4.30pm – 5pm / 5.30pm – 6pm: Giant puppet show called Los Orgos at the tourist office. These huge but very affectionate characters interact with the crowd and love meeting new people.
5pm to 6pm: Ice treasure hunt. Chip and cut your way through a block of ice to find your prize (Tourist Office).
6.15pm: Ice sculpture demo – Sculptor Sebastien Cohendet creates masterpieces from ice and will be bringing his creations to life at the tourist office. Witness a real piece of alpine craftsmanship.
Monday 30th December
4pm to 6pm: Creative workshop with wood – Learn some local woodcraft down at the Palais des Sports and create a wooden picture with the kids (children from 6 years old welcome).
4.30pm to 5.15pm / 5.45pm to 6.30pm: Les Poissons Lumineux, a giant fish themed puppet show through the enchanted village.
5pm to 5.30pm / 6pm to 6.30pm: Luminolife, a light and music show at the enchanted village where 3 meter tall neon characters come to life
Tuesday 31st December (New Years Eve)
3.30pm to 6.30pm: Face painting for children. From 3 years old – Tourist Office – 2 €
2.30pm to 4pm: Creative workshop at the Palais des Sports. Learn to make bird feeders or bird houses with recycled materials and bird fat balls. Children from 6 years old welcome.
4.30pm to 5.15pm / 5.45pm to 6.30pm : Les Animaux Sauvages, A giant puppet show where street performers roam the enchanted village with huge animal puppets.
4.30pm to 6pm: Cooking workshop at the Palais des Sports. Petits fours for New Year’s Eve, create small festive themed nibbles. Children from 6 years old welcome.
6.30pm: The Main Event!! First watch the ESF instructors as they ski the Pleney slopes holding fire torches creating a beautifully festive scene. Mulled wine and hot chocolate is available from the tourist office and the torchlight descent will be followed by a huge fireworks display from the bottom of the Pléney.
10pm to 1am: Dj Jeremy Roberto will be seeing in the new year with a live DJ set in the square
Wednesday 1st January (New Years Day)
2pm to 6pm: Workshop for children where they will learn to make small toys. Children aged from 6 years old welcome
4.30pm to 5.15pm / 5.45pm to 6.30pm: Urban cabaret show with 5 wildly coloured performers singing and dancing for the crowd.
Thursday 2nd January
2pm to 6pm: Wood workshop for children making Christmas toys. The kids become Santa’s Elves and make toys to take home. Children from 6 years old welcome. (Tourist Office)
2.30pm to 6 pm: Creative workshop for children at the Palais des Sportes making natural soaps, candle holders and leather purses. Children from 6 years old welcome
4:30pm to 5:15pm / 5:45pm to 6:30pm: Street show Les Elégants. Costumed musicians and singers dance and play their way through the enchanted village
Friday 3rd January
4pm to 6pm: Battle Drone -Come down to the Tourist office to play laser tag with a difference. The difference being you’ll be flying a drone and trying to shoot down other drones!! Children from 10 years old welcome to play.
6pm to 6:30pm : Fire & light show. A pyrotechnics show with fire juggling, fire tricks and a light show with lasers (Tourist Office).
So there you have it, a full weeks worth of festive entertainment for new years week in Morzine. All you’ve got to do now is work out how your going to fit in some skiing too?!?!!
